Digital document storage

Access your documents on the go!

Digital document storage

With the CarersCardUK app, there’s no need to carry around physical documents in your bag, folder, or purse. Instead, you can safely upload and store digital copies of your important carer documents directly on your phone.

We know that proving your status as a carer isn’t always straightforward — especially when you're out and about. That’s why we’ve made it simple. Our secure document upload feature allows you to keep official letters, such as Carers Allowance or DLA award notices, easily accessible whenever you need them.

Having all your documents in one place means you're always prepared, whether you're applying for support, accessing a discount, or attending an appointment. It’s a smarter, more convenient way to manage your carer status — right from your pocket.

Digital document storage is an optional feature within the CarersCardUK app.

Different types of carer documentation

You can upload a wide range of documents to your CarersCardUK app. Below is a list of the most commonly submitted documents by carers. Even if your document isn’t listed, you can still upload it — as long as it helps confirm your caring role.

  • Carers Allowance Award Letter: An official letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming that you are receiving Carers Allowance.

  • Carer Element of Universal Credit: A document or online statement showing that you receive the Carer Element as part of your Universal Credit entitlement.

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) Letter: A letter confirming the person you care for receives DLA — often used as evidence of your caring responsibilities.

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Letter: Proof that the person you care for receives PIP, which helps support your claim as an unpaid carer.

  • Attendance Allowance Award Letter: A DWP letter confirming that the person you care for receives Attendance Allowance.

  • Adult or Child Disability Payment (Scotland): Official letters relating to Adult or Child Disability Payments from Social Security Scotland, where applicable.

  • Carers Assessment Outcome: A letter or report from your local council confirming the result of your carer’s assessment, showing your caring role.

  • Support Plan or Care Plan: A document provided by health or social care services detailing the ongoing support needed by the person you care for — with your role clearly outlined.

  • Letter from a Healthcare Professional: A signed letter from a doctor, nurse, or other medical professional confirming that you have a caring role.

  • Letter from a Recognised Carer Organisation: Correspondence from a local carers centre, charity, or support organisation confirming your status as a carer.

  • Hospital Discharge Papers: Paperwork showing that the person you care for has been recently discharged from hospital into your care.

  • Power of Attorney or Deputyship Order: Legal documentation confirming that you act on behalf of someone who is unable to make decisions independently.

  • Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP): If you care for a child or young person, this document outlines their educational and care needs, confirming your support role.
